Anvil, 2022, fiberglass, recycled styrofoam, polyurethane resin, bronze & coldpatine, 95 x 130 x 30 cm
Anvil is suspended between two trees, floating above the rocky terrain; it appears weightless, spiritual and otherworldly. The sculpture’s surface finish is oxidized, connecting to the monumental and sculptural tradition of bronze, Anvil is thus elevated from tool to symbolic icon.
Much like a crucifix would be suspended above an altar, Anvil hovers above an old stone wall, commanding space and transforming itself from a functional blacksmithing tool to a triumphant symbol of craftsmanship.
Anvil’s presentation is almost stage-like, with pieces of found farm equipment flanking the sculpture, the rusted steel spikes of these antique farming tools become sculptures in their own right. Rooted in the classical, industrial and ethereal, the Ponder Peace sculpture garden constructs a cohesive visual language of otherworldly archeology which encourages reflection on the sanctity of the natural world.
